Abigail Barth

Registered Social Worker

Abigail is a Registered Social Worker who received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Calgary. She specializes in perinatal mental health (trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, birth trauma, grief/loss, and TFMR) and children’s mental health, ages 5-12.

Abigail was not expecting to become a therapist- she was actually going to be an actor! But things changed when she saw a family member work to process childhood traumas as an adult, and discovered the power that exists in speaking the unspoken. Additionally, her own experience with perinatal mental health, trauma, and loss led her to pursue additional training in this area to add to her practice.

Abigail primarily uses Expressive Arts Therapy and Narrative Therapy in her work, particularly when it comes to trauma and grief/loss, as these experiences can be difficult to put into words. She is dedicated to practicing from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive perspective, and likes to bring conversations around societal expectations, the patriarchy, and capitalism into the therapy room.

Abigail lives in Calgary with her partner, toddler, and cat, Sir Reginald, who has helped her to realize that she is not, in fact, a cat person. In an ideal world, Abigail would spend her days baking bread in a cottage in the woods. She would also be able to keep plants alive.
