Marisa Van Bavel
Marisa is a Registered Psychologist and a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Calgary where she earned her Master of Science in School and Applied Child Psychology. Her graduate research focuses on strengths and resilience of Indigenous youth. Marisa has over 8 years of applied experience working with youth. She started her career supporting youth in group care by fostering a safe and nurturing environment. This invaluable work experience shaped the core values that Marisa carries into her current practice. These include empowerment, compassion, social-justice, and equity.
Marisa has a range of skills and knowledge, specializing in psychological assessments, school-based interventions, and consultation with children, adolescents, and adults. This experience includes mood and anxiety disorders, giftedness, and neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Developmental Disorder, and Learning disorders). As assessments are a significant investment into one’s time and energy, Marisa takes great pride in ensuring the process is comfortable, enjoyable, and provides relevant answers to questions you may have wondered about for years. In addition to private practice, Marisa currently works in schools providing Assessment, Intervention and Consultation.
Marisa lives in Calgary and enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and running. She also enjoys finding good local coffee shops or used bookstores.
